Steve Shear, the president and executive director of Silicon Valley Seminars, Inc. started SVS in 1984 in Maui, Hawaii where he conducted a week long workshop on patents, trademarks, and copyrights for business people, technical people and general attorneys. At that time Steve was a senior partner at Flehr, Hohbach, Test Abritton & Herbert, an intellectual property firm in San Francisco and Palo Alto, California. After conducting many of these workshops offsite and for his own clients, in 1990 SVS introduced its two and three day claim drafting workshop for new patent attorneys and agents. Hundreds of these workshops have been conducted in-house and offsite through the years and in 1994, Patents and the Patent Process, a one-day workshop for patent secretaries, paralegals, and new patent attorneys/agents was introduced and, to date, has been the most successful and well received workshop. In addition, the two volume guide book which forms part of this latter workshop has been equally successfully received.
